Children’s first years of school are crucial for their development and their future success. Every child deserves a strong start in life and the support to reach their full potential. All children have the right to a secure, safe, and happy childhood.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) establishes the standards from the early classes to our Reception program to ensure that children learn, develop well, and stay healthy and safe. It focuses on teaching and learning to prepare children for school and provides them with a broad range of knowledge and skills that form a solid foundation for future success in school and life.
Odyssey International School recognises that every child is unique, bringing with them culture, interests, languages, and experiences from various parts of the world. We offer a range of activities within the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) framework for playing, exploring, being creative, thinking critically about the world, and learning actively with hands on materials. This takes place in a supportive environment, where teachers respond to their interests and individual needs while fostering positive relationships, problem solving and creativity. There is a balance between open-ended play with child-initiated explorations and adult led activities. Our learners are encouraged to develop independence and initiative, having the confidence to take risks and to become more independent at solving problems. The Odyssey values of Integrity, Sustainability, Diversity, Creativity, Confidence and Positivity are fostered from this young age and are woven into everyday school life. The natural environment plays an important role in sustainability and learning about life around us. The children are encouraged to observe, appreciate and look after the world around us, in order to understand that our actions have an impact.
Odyssey follows the seven areas of learning and development as set out by UK’s Department for Education. All of these are important and interconnected.
The three prime areas are particularly important for building children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning and for building a foundation to learn, form relationships and thrive.
